Sometimes life becomes overwhelming: it may be that your current situation is worrying you or it may be that, even though things appear to be going well, you are still feeling uncomfortable in your skin - perhaps you realise that things have never felt quite right. It maybe that the pressures of the world around you that seem too hard to deal with.
Having a non-judgmental space where you can explore what you feel and think, without having to worry about burdening or upsetting those around you, can be life-changing. You can find the space to learn about your own behaviours and influences and how to see things differently.
I can provide you with that space.
Why counselling?
INDIVIDUAL COUNSELLING
I’m a counsellor used to working with all ages and stages, especially students, by providing space, confidence and trust to help explore any things you are struggling with. I have ten years’ experience of working with trauma, anxiety, depression, issues of identity, family difficulties, low esteem, suicidal ideation and problems large and small. I am an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
UNIVERSITY TRANSITION
I offer talks and training to senior schools for both parents/carers and 6th formers to help students prepare for keeping well as an undergraduate and to make the most of the whole university experience. I am also happy to speak to parents individually to help them find the best way to support their children through their transition to further education.
How I can help ….
MY BACKGROUND:
After a career in teaching, I began counselling training and working with young children and adolescents. I then went on to 8 years of working in Edinburgh Universities as a counsellor to students. I have also brought up four children.
I have trained principally in Psychodynamic Counselling but have gone on to integrate elements of Person Centred counselling, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and other modalities according to the individual client’s needs and I keep up with professional development into the many ways to work with the different mental health challenges people have.
My strongest belief is that a non-judgmental, confidential trusting space allows people to explore their problems and reframe their difficulties giving them the confidence and resilience to move on.
HOW I WORK:
COUNSELLING:
I work online - (camera off - if preferred) by the hour. I suggest an initial consultation/chat, without charge, to ensure that we feel mutually comfortable. I would usually work with someone weekly but that can be adapted, and timings can be flexible. It is important that the client has a confidential place from which to work. I would normally expect a first block of 6 sessions and then a reassessment of things but I am happy to adapt to individual’s needs.
I work within the BACP ethical framework and have a professional supervisor as stipulated.
